Why won’t the Verse by Verse Through the Bible USB work with my car stereo?

kristinBlog

TL;DR: In order to fit all the studies on one USB, the USB is formatted with exFAT. Older car stereos use FAT32 and cannot read exFAT formatted disks.

Q: Is there a work around?
A: Yes. There are a couple options if you have a computer.

  1. Using a known working USB
    • Plug a USB you know works with your car stereo into your computer.
    • Plug in your Verse by Verse through the Bible USB to the computer.
    • Open both USBs up. Drag some files from the Verse by Verse USB to your known-working USB.
    • You will not be able to fit all the files on the known-working USB
  2. Reformat the Verse by Verse USB
    • Save the files on the Verse by Verse USB to your computer. Do not proceed until you are sure they are all saved on your computer!
    • Reformat the Verse by Verse USB drive with FAT32 Format program. (Softronic will try to trick you into installing another program, tell it No and proceed with the download).  This article has details on how to reformat the drive.
    • Your drive will now only hold 32GB of files.
    • Save some files onto the newly reformatted USB.
    • You will not be able to fit all the files on the USB.

Details for those who are interested:

FAT32 is a old and very cross-compatible format which is why car stereos used it for so long. But FAT32 limits the USB drive size to 32GB. There is no way around this issue. Therefore, newer, larger drives are generally formatted as exFAT.

Since there are approximately 36GB of audio files on the Verse by Verse USB, they have to be formatted as exFAT to fit all the files on one USB drive. Older car stereos cannot understand exFAT format and therefore do not recognize exFAT USBs.
