Action Alert: STOP HR 5

Help Stop the “Equality Act”

The “Equality Act” (H.R. 5) would amend The Civil Rights Act of 1964 to include sexual orientation and gender identity as federally protected classes but the bill would result in a risk to our civil rights and religious liberty.

According to The Federalist, “The act would ban the following locations from “discriminating” against individuals based on sexual or gender identity: a “stadium or other place of or establishment that provides exhibition, entertainment, recreation, exercise, amusement, gathering, or display; any establishment that provides a good, service, or program, including a store, shopping center, online retailer or service provider, salon, bank, gas station, food bank, service or care center, shelter, travel agency, or funeral parlor, or establishment that provides health care, accounting, or legal services; any train service, bus service, car service, taxi service, airline service, station, depot, or other place of or establishment that provides transportation service.

Most importantly, “The bill prohibits the Religious Freedom Restoration Act of 1993 from providing a claim, defense, or basis for challenging such protections.” The bill essentially nullifies federal and state religious freedom protections by handing authority to the U.S. Department of Justice to interpret and investigate claims of discrimination.”

Call your U.S. Representative today and urge him or her to vote “NO” on the “Equality Act” (H.R. 5)

VP Pence: “Easy Christianity is Gone”

Watchmen MinistryWatchmen Ministry

(Faith & Freedom) Most know that our Vice President and his wife are deeply committed evangelical Christians, who stand for their faith. Both have been mocked publicly for their faith.

Pence’s speech would not have been given only a few decades ago, but now, it is a must— because it’s a clarion call for what lies ahead.

The bottom line is this: The days of easy Christianity in America are over.  (Read More)

Caught in the Act: What H.R. 5 Means for America

Watchmen MinistryWatchmen Ministry

(FRC) Microsoft won’t just correct your grammar — it’ll correct your ideology too. Thanks to new software, misspellings won’t be the only thing brought to users’ attention. The applications have a discrimination setting now, where people can be shamed for using gender-specific words like “policeman” or “congressman.” It’s all part of the tech world’s subtle liberal wave. But if the House gets its way, it won’t just be the tech world — it’ll be the whole world.  (Read More)

Defining and Defending Religious Freedom

Watchmen MinistryWatchmen Ministry

(Breakpoint) We’ve not seen in the United States, at least in recent memory, so many efforts to force Christians to act in ways that violate their consciences. Almost always, these demands are made in the name of sexual freedom—whether we’re talking about nuns being forced to provide contraception, bakers and florists having to participate in gay weddings, or adoption agencies being forced to place kids with same-sex couples.  (Read More)

This Small Christian School Faces Fines and Jail Time for Its Beliefs… So It’s Fighting Back

(Alliance Defending Freedom) It’s not a big school – not quite 60 students, grades 6-12. And maybe you wouldn’t expect it to be – offering, as it does, required classes in Latin and Greek, with a heavy emphasis on Shakespeare and Homer, taught by teachers in the traditional Socratic method … questions asked, students engaged, minds and imaginations stirred to life.  (Read More)

Missing the Power of the Cross

(FRC) Just a little over a month ago, the U.S. Supreme Court heard arguments on a World War I monument honoring 49 men who died in the war to end all wars. The memorial, built by the American Legion in 1925, is just 10 miles from SCOTUS in Bladensburg, Maryland. As they have in most towns, the American Humanist Society sued the city…  (Read More)

Christian Persecution Today

Watchmen MinistryWatchmen Ministry

(Open Doors USA) Christians remain one of the most persecuted religious groups in the world. While Christian persecution takes many forms, it is defined as any hostility experienced as a result of identification with Christ. Christian torture remains an issue for believers throughout the world including the risk of imprisonment, loss of home and assets, physical torture, beheadings, rape and even death as a result of their faith.  (Read More)

Christianity No Longer Welcome at Yale? 6 Questions with a Yale Law School Student

(Alliance Defending Freedom) What is the climate for free speech like on campus?

“Tense” would be an understatement. My conservative friends and I are routinely subject to cyberbullying and harassment. Whenever we send out a school-wide email announcement about a guest speaker, our peers frequently respond with condemnations and long diatribes about why the speaker is evil.  (Read More)

Why is the Born Alive Law Needed to Stop Infanticide? Don’t Laws Already Protect Babies Surviving Abortion?

Watchmen MinistryWatchmen Ministry

(LifeNews) On April 18, 2019 Governor Roy Cooper of North Carolina vetoed SB 359. This bill sought protections for those children born from either an abortion or an attempted abortion. More states are seeking to push such legislation to ensure that these children do not become victims of a philosophy that deems them as non-persons.  (Read More)

Academic and Corporate Wokeness

(Breakpoint) In February, the Yale Law School chapter of the Federalist Society invited Kristen Waggoner of the Alliance Defending Freedom to speak on campus.

This, to put it mildly, didn’t go over well with some of the law school’s more “woke” students. Using talking points straight from the Southern Poverty Law Center, students protested Waggoner’s visit, calling the ADF a “homophobic, transphobic hate group.”  (Read More)

Trump Admin Steps Up Defense of Pro-Life Doctors, Nurses Who Don’t Want to be Involved in Abortion

Watchmen MinistryWatchmen Ministry

(LifeNews) The Trump administration is stepping up to address a growing number of complaints from medical workers who believe it is wrong to abort an unborn baby.

Last year, it created a new division under the Department of Health and Human Services’ Office of Civil Rights to defend Americans’ religious and moral liberties. In its first year, the HHS division has received more than 300 complaints about religious and moral discrimination, Roll Call reports.  (Read More)

At School, a Test of Wills over Privacy

(FRC) Biological boys may be walking into the bathroom, but in some states — teenage girls are walking out. From Nebraska to Alaska, students are tired of fighting school leaders to feel safe. And if local districts won’t listen to their concerns, and parents won’t stand up to school officials, then maybe they’ll pay attention to the student protests.  (Read More)

Colorado Sex Ed Bill Would Force Kids to Learn LGBT Ideology, Ban Talk of Abstinence

(Daily Signal) Colorado’s wildly controversial, comprehensive sex ed legislation has ignited national discussions about how far Americans want to expose their children to a radical social agenda.

More than a few eyebrows were raised when Colorado passed its mandatory comprehensive sex education law in 2013, which required students undergo “culturally sensitive” lessons.  (Read More)

Black Women Blast Hollywood for Pushing Abortion Instead of Helping African-Americans

(LifeNews) Several black pro-life women activists have released statements blasting Hollywood elites for pushing abortion and threatening to boycott Georgia for passing a bill to ban abortions when a baby’s heart begins beating. They say liberal Hollywood elites should be more concerned with helping the African-American community rather than promoting abortion.  (Read More)
