Dear Mike;
Your post is older, but just notced it today as I was at the site.
That is great your following the Lord’s lead to share His Word with others.
Here are some things I hope may help.
Gospel of John by Harry A. Ironside
Gospel of John J.Vernon Mcgee
John: That You May Believe
R. Kent Hughes
Warren Weirsbe
John 1-12: Be Alive
John 13-21: Be Transformed
Some foundations:
Read, read and reread the gospel itself till you come to a place of being able to divide and give heading to sections as they present themselves in context. And begin with these three questions to any section you face;
What does this teach me about God?
What does this teach me about the world in whcih I live from God’s perspective?
And what does it teach me about walking with God considering these first two things?
Second; You may look at some of pastor Chucks notes.
Through The Bible C2000 Series. http://twft.com/?page=C2000
Here you can listen to the study. And you can click on pastor chuck’s notes on the tab on the far side of the section of scripture being covered. Then you can click on specific notes.
Always remember 3 things:
The Bible is its own best commentary.
That you ask the Lord in prayer to show you His Word and to prepare you to teach it- always seek His face.
That we cannot be poured out lest we be filled up. Be filled daily afresh of Him, His love and His Word. Become saturated with His Word.
Then trust Him to do the work- He will!
I hope this helps in some way as you follow Jesus-
Its always about Him!
In His love - To His glory
